CORNFEST

In my hometown of Watford, Ontario we celebrate the corn harvest through our annual Cornfest. In 2017, I thought that Cornfest might need some updates, and chose to join the Cornfest Committee to help them fit into today's modern environment.

The first step of this redesign and update was designing a logo that would convey the overall brand of the festival. I wanted it to feel classic and old fashioned while also having modern elements. The design also needed to have some longevity so that it wouldn't go out of style. I came up with many designs, but chose to present these four to the committee. The committee voted and decided that the saloon style logo (#2) was a great way to present our festival to the world. Click on the images to enlarge.

While older versions of the poster were a simple one page flyer, with the redesign, we decided to go big or go home and make a four page spread. Click on the image below to see the inside of the flyer in addition to the pages seen here.

After going through several iterations, this was the poster that we came upon. For me it was extremely important to create a cohesive brand throughout the flyer, by incorporating the colours (green and yellow) and using symbolism such as corn stalks. creating room for the major sponsors and their logos was the biggest challenge, as I wanted to ensure they were all legible without ruining the integrity and layout of the design.

In the continued effort to make the festival better suited for a modern environment, I decided to design a Snapchat filter for the event.

In addition to this, the Cornfest committee rented a photo booth, and the event logo was used to increase the cohesive brand image.

My role on the committee also included managing the social media page. The committee voted that the best option was a Facebook group rather than a page. I posted updates and information leading up to the event.

My role on the Cornfest committee as designer and social media head was resumed in 2018 and 2019. I keep hoping to improve the image and acceptance of the event in modern day times. In the future, I would love to spread this branding to new Cornfest features such as volunteer shirts and banners.  After the branding was so well received in 2017, the committee will never revert to posters designed using Microsoft Word again.
